4 SIGNS IT’S TIME TO STEP OUT OF THE SPIRITUAL BROOM CLOSET

The spiritual broom closet is that place where you shove your inner feral mystic because you know if you let her out things are going to change, and change can be scary. It could be that our souls have a blueprint of some kind; call it destiny. Free will gives us the choice to fulfill it or not. Maybe we get several lifetimes to respond to some sweet soul song there in the edges of our perception.

We are all spiritual beings in our own way. Some find it through religion, others through nature, and others through contemplating presence or cooking a spectacular meal.  To grow is spiritual.

In my opinion the sign of a truly spiritual being is kindness.

I can’t tell you why this is, but from experience I can assure you that when you choose to live a life of kindness, it is very triggering to others. Kindness brings joy; it feels good to be kind. It is wise to avoid the assumption others can see how hard you have worked to be where you are. Your happiness can anger people enough for them to want to attack you with their words, energy, and actions. Knock you down a peg and bring you to their level. Misery loves company, so it goes.

Knowing this, who would want to step out of the spiritual broom closet and make themselves vulnerable to such unwanted energy? But then, there is something about spirituality that makes us realize what we have inside of us is much bigger than us.

And that bigness makes the broom closet start to feel slightly suffocating.

It could be helpful to ask yourself if you edit your joy in order to not make others feel alone in their misery.

And what has that self-editing cost you? Do you feel your healthiest? Do you feel your happiest?

Step out of the spiritual broom closet, and you just might.

Stepping out of the spiritual broom closet is a bold move. It’s saying, “I am here to walk a path of truth, beauty, and kindness. That may not look normal, and I may be judged, but there is a light in me that can no longer be contained. I can feel the web of life and can feel the nature I belong to, and I am ready to play my part.”

The signs of being ready to step out of the spiritual broom closet are:

Synchronicity:

You think of someone, and then they call you. You have a dream about a departed loved one handing you a white feather, and the next morning in your outdoor meditation, one falls into your lap. You keep hearing the same name everywhere, and then you meet someone with that name who ends up being significant in your life. These are all signs that your spirituality is bursting from you.

Emotion:

Everything starts hitting harder. A beautiful song. An epic cuddle with an animal angel. A word fitly spoken tasting sweet as apples of gold. The more spiritual you allow yourself to be, the more the waters of emotion will flow. The growth lies in understanding which emotions serve you and which do not.

Inspiration:

You feel inspired and motivated to see creations through to fruition. Through dreams, messages, and an internal compass of compassion, you are guided to the how, when, where, who, what, and why of your endeavors.

Change:

Even if at first it hurts, something in life has changed drastically to make it so you now have space to be who you always have been. This change has made it so hiding feels more challenging than it used to and has led you towards a greater sense of self-acceptance and appreciation for this life.

The best part of stepping out of the spiritual broom closet is that you inspire others to do the same, and one open heart door at a time, the world becomes an even more beautiful place.
